Job Description:

The goal of Fiddlehead Center for the Arts Scarborough is to provide a safe, engaging after-school setting where students can expand their creative abilities and knowledge. Fiddlehead offers a rich and high quality enrichment curriculum in Science, Music and Art. Each afternoon we host a different enrichment class for Scarborough students in grades K-5. Fiddlehead Scarbrough is looking for a qualified candidate for our after school program as lead science enrichment instructor to teach classes 2 afternoons per week.  

Salary: Starting at $20 per hour

Part-time:  4-6 hours per week,  2 days per week required for teaching

General Function

Under the direct supervision of the Fiddlehead Director, the lead science instructor will be responsible for the supervision and safety of 20-25 school age children. The Instructor will plan TWO classes with a STEM or science-based curriculum. Each class meets from 4 to 5pm once a week. Instructors would be expected to be present from 3:30 to 5:30pm for each day they teach.  

Qualifications

The qualified applicant will possess general knowledge in these areas:

  • Lesson planning and implementation
  • Classroom management
  • Safety / Risk Management in a child centered program

*Must hold a college degree or a current college student with at least 24 college credits.

*Must pass a background check.

Although not required, candidates with the following qualifications are prefered:

  • minimum of two years experience working with children.
  • CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Experience working with students with special needs

Job Responsibilities

  • Planning and execution of engaging science or STEM lessons and hands-on learning activities
  • Available to work assigned work hours
  • Teach, direct and supervise school age children
  • Involve children in all program activities
  • Develop age appropriate programming for children
  • Responsible for the health, safety, and well being of the children at all times
  • Must be an active participant and a positive role model to children
  • Exhibit courteous and helpful behavior to children, staff, parents/guardians, and the general public
  • Report to the Director any behavioral concerns and/or incidents involving the children in the program
  • Responsible for all equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of program areas
  • Carry out all policies and overall Fiddlehead goals and mission.
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Piano, Voice Instructor

The goal of Fiddlehead Center for the Arts Scarborough is to provide a safe, engaging after-school setting where students can expand their creative abilities and knowledge. Fiddlehead offers a rich and high quality enrichment curriculum in Science, Music and Art. On Monday-Thursday afternoons we host 30 minute to 1 hour private music lessons for students of all ages. Fiddlehead Scarborough is looking for a qualified candidate as a music instructor able to teach at least piano and voice classes three afternoons per week. If qualified to teach instruments besides piano, please specify when applying. However, our facility is not well suited for brass instruments or drums.

Salary: Starting at $30 per hour
Part-time: 6-10 hours per week

General Function
Our private music instructors provide music lessons about how to sing or play a musical instrument to pupils, both adults and children. Typical teaching hours are 3pm to 6/6:30pm.

Qualifications

  • 2+ Years experience teaching private lessons,
  • Proficient with piano and voice instruction
  • Have or pursuing degree in music/music education (Experience can be substituted for education.)
  • Experience working with students of all ages and skill levels
  • Qualified applicants will be reliable and able to make a long-term (12+ Months) commitment.

Job Responsibilities

  • planning and preparing lessons in relation to individual pupils’ needs
  • acquiring appropriate teaching materials and resources
  • motivating pupils and encouraging progress
  • liaising with Fiddlehead staff and parents
  • assessing pupils’ abilities, providing feedback and writing reports
  • assist arranging songs for the performances during Fiddlehead recitals
  • keeping accurate records for lessons
